American Airlines is rolling out inflight wireless Internet access to 300 domestic aircraft during the next two years, expanding on a 15-plane rollout that began last summer. American said it would install the system in conjunction with inflight connectivity provider Aircell on 150 MD-80 aircraft this year, and add it to its Boeing 737 fleet next year.

Other airlines, including Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and Virgin America, also have advanced inflight Internet offerings with Aircell. Delta continues its domestic fleetwide rollout, which eventually will include recently acquired Northwest aircraft.

Southwest Airlines last month also launched a limited three-airplane pilot of inflight Internet service with Aircell competitor Row 44, while Alaska Airlines also has announced plans to roll out Row 44's satellite-based Internet offering.

The following are some tips for ways to save while traveling for business:

* Use a travel agent. Agencies do charge fees for their services but most can access better air fares and hotel rates.
* Change the venue. Instead of the annual get-together for the sales team in the Seychelles, why not make your destination Southampton?
* Make a stopover. Flying direct is almost always more expensive than making a stop-off.
* Book in advance. Business travelers tend to book at the last minute when airfares are most expensive. Booking even a few days earlier can make a big difference.
* Stay the weekend. Weekday flights are more expensive on many airlines and a Saturday night stay might cut your fare enough to cover an extra night in the hotel.

AIR FRANCE ADDS PREMIUM ECONOMY

Air France is joining the ranks of carriers adding a fourth cabin, premium economy, on its long-haul flights. The Premium Voyageur section launches on April 1 on flights from Paris to New York/Kennedy, Tokyo and Osaka. The cabin will feature a "fixed shell" seat that reclines in its own housing rather than into the space of the passenger in the row behind. The chair is 18.9 inches wide, reclines 123 degrees and offers 38 inches of legroom.

In-flight service is a hybrid: Passengers in the new cabin receive a standard coach meal with some business-class perks such as an amenities kit. The chairs are equipped with 10-inch monitors and an on-demand audio-video system.
